How to clean & polish pressed metal panels
Pressed metal is usually supplied powder coated or in its natural metal state. Aluminium is most commonly used because of its compatibility with modern decor and its rust-resistance. Copper and brass are used occasionally for a special effect, but generally more difficult to preserve in pristine as-new condition over many years.
Tips for cleaning and preservation
To help the as-new appearance of your pressed metal panels indefinitely - without much effort.
Powder coated panels
Regular cleaning with warm water, clean cloth or sponge, and a mild detergent is recommended since, like all household surfaces, grime and dust can accumulate on the surface. Wipe over weekly or as required.
A quick and easy cleaning solutions is provided Autosol Aluminium Power Cleaner. Spray on, wipe off application.
Oxidation may occur over time due to normal air-borne contaminants. If the surface feels rough to the touchand looks dull, a mild metal polish will restore the appearance. German-made Autosol is the recommended brand.
Which polish to use? Avoid abrasive polishes where powder coated metal is in good condition with a lustered of gloss finish. Autosol Aluminium Polish or Anodised Aluminium Polish are recommended.
Where the surface has aged and lost its as-new lustre, Dursol Shine is recommended. In extreme cases, the heavier duty companion product, Autosol Metal Polish can be used, but test first on a small area. Treat a small section at a time - rub in, rub off. Do not allow the polish to dry.
Natural metal finish
Where the metal is in its natural state, and made from aluminium, brass or copper, the same advice as above for powder coated metal surfaces generally applies. On such surfaces, all six Autosol Products can be used, the choise depending on the state of the surface - Aluminium Power Cleaner, Aluminium Polish and Anodised Aluminium Polish where the surface is in good condition. Where dullness from oxidation is evident, Autosol Metal Polish and Dursol Shine are more effective.
Maintain shine and protection with the least effort by using Autosol Metal Polish Liquid every month or so. Rub in, rub off.
Painted or lacquered surfaces
More care is required. Clean off surface grime as discribed above. If the paint surface is dull, do not use an abrasive product otherwise the gloss or matte lustre finish of the surface can be adversely affected. Autosol Aluminium Polish is recommended.
